Eight Richard Huish College students have been successful in the Somerset Cricket Academy trials that took place at Taunton Cricket Club on 2nd September following two rescheduled dates in an uncertain summer for sport.

In the trials every player was given the opportunity to showcase their batting and bowling skills in hopes of being offered a place in the reputable Somerset Cricket Academy Programme. From Huish those who were successfully recruited this year were; Olivia Morgan, Ellie Popplestone, Farran Gregory, Jamie Gunstone, Max Horton, Toby Stirzaker, Josh Thomas and Sam Toohey.

Through the programme, due to start in October, players will receive 2:1 coaching, group skills coaching and a fielding session as well as support with physiotherapy, psychology, strength and conditioning and nutrition. They will have access to the Huish gym, the opportunity to take a coaching qualification and will complete in a winter and summer fixture programme.

Mike Ryan, Sports Development Officer, commented “A massive congratulations to all of those who were successful in gaining their place on the programme and we look forward to seeing their progress and development in the future”.
