Thursday January 30th marked a special night for former Huish student Casey Williams when he won the A Level Award for England Zone 2 at the British Education Awards. England Zone 2 represents students from the East Midlands, East Anglia, London, the South East & the South West.

The ceremony took place in Manchester at the Hilton Hotel where guests enjoyed a black tie gala dinner and entertainment. Finalists came from across the UK to celebrate educational achievements from GCSE to degree level.

Casey was a particularly remarkable student who was fully deserving in his win, he was the highest achieving student of the Huish Class of 2019 where he studied Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Further Maths achieving an incredible A* grade in every subject.

The College nominated Casey due to his all-round contribution to Huish life. On top of his academic success, he was also Captain of the Basketball team leading them to glory in the Association of Colleges league in 2019 and taking the silver medal at the National Knockout Cup 2019. His success at this level gave him the opportunity to play for the Huish Tigers Men’s team in National Division 4. He was awarded a medal for his outstanding contribution to sport at the 2019 Huish Sports Awards. His teachers described him as being “very modest” and a “pleasure to teach”.

Casey secured sponsorship from an Australian software company while at Huish giving him the opportunity to visit Australia in the summer of 2018 to complete an internship. Currently he is studying Computer Science at Imperial College London.
