Students at The Taunton Academy are celebrating another strong set of results. There were several individual success stories, with students gaining multiple grade 9 results. Ruth Garang achieved eight grade 9s, Chloe Sanders was awarded seven and Kacper Slodek six. At every level students met their target grades; enabling them to secure places at colleges, apprenticeships and other further education providers.
The Head Teacher, Jenny Veal, said: “This represents the culmination of sustained hard work over their time at the academy, allowing our students to reach their potential. The results are a testament to how well our teachers know our students, the excellent relationships we have, combined with superb subject knowledge and high quality teaching and learning.
“After the turmoil of recent days, since the release of the A-Level results, we are delighted that the government has done the right thing by our students and trusted our teachers’ judgements by using Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) rather than apply an algorithm, which may have disproportionately disadvantaged our students.
“I would like to congratulate our students on the grades they achieved. This is due to the hard work and effort they and our staff have made over a long period of time. Having missed out on the last few months of school and actually sitting their exams, as well as being denied special events such as the prom, our students have achieved the grades they deserved and I am delighted for them. It is a set of results of which the academy is exceptionally proud.
John Eddy, Head Teacher designate, said: “We know that a number of our students, including our highest achievers, have succeeded in the face of formidable personal obstacles, even before Covid-19 became an issue; including serious personal and family health issues, personal challenges and significant disadvantage and we are particularly proud of their success. The spread of high achievement across all subject areas underpins the strength and quality of teaching and learning, which is particularly pleasing given that we are a fully inclusive academy. We look forward to watching our students flourish in the next stage of their educational journey.”
