Sociology students at Huish have worked hard over the past couple of weeks to raise £153.00 for Arc Inspire (formally Taunton Homeless Association). Arc is a local homeless charitable organisation, supporting over 350 people per year. They offer supported accommodation where people can be inspired and empowered by their own strengths. As well as providing accommodation Arc aims to ensure no-one has to spend more than one night homeless, with their Outreach Team working hard to support rough sleepers, getting them into accommodation as quickly as possible.
The students sourced raffle prizes and sold tickers to raise money to support those who have found themselves homeless. Earlier this Summer, Sociology Teacher, Mel Kubicki, who is a regular volunteer with Arc, shared; “The nature of my subject means that I am interested in the world around me and I am very aware of how the structure of society brings not only consensus amongst its members but also conflict and inequalities. I believe it is good if we are able to play an active role and contribute in any way we can. In my profession it is key for me to be a positive role model and I hope the young people I work with will also be inspired to offer their skills to assist and empower others”
